If you use sex-related keywords in your Twitter hashtags, or post explicit pictures, you may have seen a drop in views and clicks on your Tweets. This is because, as part of their Safe Space changes, Twitter has started blocking certain words
in their search engine.
This follows their February update
when they rolled out SafeSearch filters on content, flagging each image as "safe" or not in an attempt to block violent or adult images from appearing in search results.
The Safe Search feature is enabled by default on all Twitter accounts. Users can disable it, but they would first have to know it's there. Since Twitter rolled this out pretty quietly, most casual Twitter users may not even know it has happened and are probably wondering where all their porn has gone.
Some hashtags we've seen impacted by these changes include: Porn, NSFW, Sex, BDSM, Kink
How to use Hashtags with Safe Search
You can still use these in your hashtags, but now Tweets containing these will no longer show up under "Latest Tweets". They will still show up under "Top Tweets", which is where Twitter shows Tweets with high interactions.
We'd recommend incorporating other keywords as well that may be less explicit, but still allow your audience to find you. Our Guide to Hashtags
lists a variety of tags you can use to promote iFriends live cam models.
How to use Content with Safe Search
The safest bet is to stick to teaser content. Many models offer less explicit content that you can access through our Model Spotlight Tool
When you use more explicit content, blur it. You can still link to the un-altered content, and you may find more users clicking through to see what's really going on under that blur. This will also allow you to post the image on Instagram, who is auto-blurring "sensitive" photos
How to Continue to Reach your Followers
People who already follow your Twitter account are folks who want to hear from you. If you haven't been proactive about following them back and interacting with them, now is the time to do so. Interacting with someone is the best way to make sure they don't forget about you. The more you interact with your followers, the more you learn the type of content they like as well. Consider it market research to find out where to send those followers to earn the most from their traffic.
One great way to generate some interaction is to run a poll, and retweet the poll post often. People love giving their opinions, and it's more great market research on what your followers want (and don't want) to see from you.
If you haven't already, be sure to phone verify
and email verify
your Twitter account. In an attempt to curtail harassment and abuse, Twitter has added a setting that lets users see only Phone and Email verified accounts. It's currently off by default but don't let that discourage you from verifying your account. There's no guarantee that OFF will remain the default.
